I’m writing this at 5PM South Dakota time, not knowing when this will finally go up. Middle America doesn’t have the greatest of reception. Plus, because of the lack of population density and rolling mountains, cell phone reception is very hard to get. Same with wifi.
Now, to recall where I left off on the last post. I think we were leaving to go horseback riding. That was the absolute best experience - hands down! First, we drive into Wyoming (the least densely populated state in the nation as I later learned). Upon arriving to the ranch where we were to ride, we drive offroad on a gravel/dirt road for about 2 miles. Then we arrive at the ranch by 3 of the sweetest ranching dogs ever.
Dennis, the ranch owner and tour guide greets us and just immediately sets us up on out horses. Mine was named Chudwater and I think he was really testing me. We mount up and start to ride off. As we start to ride off, Chudwater decides to take off on his own trail. Had to rein him in and get him back into line. We ride. After awhile, we stop to view the scenery and Chudwater decides to position my foot under another horse’s asshole. While enjoying the scenery, I start feeling pressure on my foot, like some is pressing down on it. Sure enough, this other horse was crapping on my for. So I tap Chudwater on the sides to get him moving. Later on, he keepings try to stray off the trail, but I was able to keep him in check. I think he was just testing me and finally quit messing with me towards the end. To sum it up, it was the time where I finally was able to just sit there and not think about anything. It was very living in the moment. Nothing else concerned me except keeping the horse in line and enjoying the sun and scenery. We didn’t want to leave, but headed off to Cheyenne.
There, we went to this cowboy shop. I soooooo wanted to buy this cowboy hat. But, really now. When the hell am I going to wear that? And, how will I get that on the plane when I don’t want to check in luggage. It wasn’t worth the price. We also went to dinner at a diner there. That place was the greatest heart attack ever. I ended up getting a breaded spicy chicken sandwich that had fried pickles, onion rings, and a mayo-jalapeƱo spread. Sounds gross right? It was great! But I could only, eat half. Then I chugged a giant beer. Needless to say, I didn’t feel too great that night.
Next, we rolled out and went to Custer, South Dakota, where we spent the night.
Day 5 started with my entirely crusted over. I kinds wish I took a pic. I ended up sleeping under this fan and it basically caused all this crust to form on my eye. Took a bit of scrubbing to get all the crust out of my eye. (I can already here all the ewww, gross comments)
First stop of the day was Crazy Horse Memorial. Before heading out, I stopped by a gas station to get change for hella one’s. Boy, was I sadly disappointed when I got there. This place was actually a memorial.
Now I’m tired and will have to continue another time.
